Menu Plan Monday 11-6-17

Indiana band state finals 2017

Hello, Menu Plan Monday friends! I am really tired on Sunday as I write this, but never fear; I will not let you down 🙂 Saturday all day I went to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. All three daughters were there; the youngest was participating with her band in state marching band finals. This is the 7th year in a row I’ve been to this, and it never loses its excitement. The photo above shows a portion of all 10 class A bands on the field at the end of the program, waiting for results (hers is center left, in blue uniforms with the guard wearing “fire” costumes in front).

And my daughter’s band came in FIRST! It was a thrill. This first happened (for our family, at least) in 2011, when my oldest daughter was a freshman in band. It hasn’t happened since, so it’s not something to take for granted. We got home around 3 a.m., then church on Sunday morning, then a season-end potluck for lunch, then an organ recital across town after that, and … I am really tired, and now it’s Monday.

So, not a lot of extras this week. You will have to give us all some fun commentary in the comments.

Menu Plan Monday

Here’s the week’s menu plan —

Monday: Mrs. T’s Pierogies — I usually buy these when they’re on sale at Meijer. They’re a quick, tasty dinner — although Daughter #1, who ate some authentic pierogies in Poland this summer, says that these are not acceptable to her anymore 🙂

Tuesday: Pulled Chicken Sandwiches — easy when you buy a baguette from the store.

Wednesday: Hamburger Vegetable Soup — leftover from last time, yay!

Thursday: BBQ Chicken Ranch Casserole — also left from last week. Are you seeing a theme here? I am feeling the need for a break.

Friday: make-your-own pizzas where I make the crust dough and each person makes a personal pizza with toppings of choice.

  1. I am so glad I was at the competition. The stars lined up for Homestead and our family that night. We are all thankful when that occurs! As I have stated elsewhere, the evening restored my faith in the youth of Indiana. Everything that took place seemed wholesome and right! May it continue! Now go back to bed and sleep!

  2. How awesome to be State Champs! Congratulations to the band, the parents, ad the school! Your menus sound warm and comforting. Have a good week!

  3. LOL on the pierogis. We still eat them, but its been mentioned that I COULD make the “good” ones again–it’s been YEARS since I went thru all that. But maybe while I’m off between Christmas and New Year’s I will. So GREAT for the band!!

  4. CONGRATULATIONS on Homestead Band being the State Champions! So much hard work goes into such a production. Not only the band members, their director, but also family members that back them up with volunteer work throughout the competition season each year! I’m so happy that your family was so well represented. No wonder you are extra tired the past couple of days, but I see that you do have those evening meals under control. 🙂 Good tried and true recipes plus savory left-overs really do fill the bill when needed.
As for me I am not very much into cooking lately, but I plan to improve on that stance since soup weather has officially arrived. I bought a brand new crock pot at Goody’s awhile back for only $20! That is because it was marked down to 60% off for a special that day, plus I had another coupon for an additional $10 off. And it is even programmable; what a deal! It is my plan to make potato soup in it later this week since I have a 5lb. bag of potatoes that need to be used up. Leona

  5. I am so excited that your band won!! Congratulations to your daughter and all the hard-working band members. When my daughters were in the high school band, I never got over being excited at the competitions. So much fun, especially when they win and are awarded for all the hard work. Tonight we’ll have crab cakes. I made sloppy Joe’s last evening so we’ll have those leftovers on Tuesday. On Wednesday and Thursday at 3PM, I’ll be having stress tests and they will be taking place near a favorite restaurant so when I’m done with that, we’ll go there for an early supper. I don’t know about Friday but I think some Mrs. T’s Pierogies may be calling my name!!
