Happy Labor Day, friends and menu planners. Are you enjoying unofficial fall so far? It has been really nice here, with cool days overall (although today is forecasted to reach 87). Up above, you can see daughter #3 and a few of her friends 🙂 playing the National Anthem at the football game Friday night. It was cool and so breezy that my teeth were chattering on the way back to the car.

Labor Day week is always nice, with its shorter work week (4 fewer piano students for me) and its extra day to rest or do whatever. I’m planning to see All Saints with the girls; I’ll let you know how it is. My husband is traveling for work, which means a lighter cooking week too. Yay! Saturday is the potluck with the entire band that kicks off their competitive season. That always involves lots of good food and excitement, too.

Here are the plans:

Monday: leftover buffet — cleaning out the fridge

Tuesday: tacos — the girls are easy; so probably just involving chicken, tortillas, beans, cheese, etc.

Wednesday: Arby’s (Arby’s gives $ to the band from everyone eating dinner there tonight)

Thursday: Daughter #2 cooks! Easy Smoked Sausage Skillet and Mackinac Island Fudge

Friday: pancakes and applesauce. My neighbor has given me apples from her tree. Maybe I can make the applesauce?

  1. The band is so impressive in their appearance! I am glad you get a lighter week. I have thawed a package of brats. I cannot get my grill to light so I guess I will brown them in my Pioneer Woman skillet, instead. I hope to give the playhouse front door a coat of primer and maybe even the first coat of regular paint. Painting is out of my comfort zone, but I will do it anyway! Happy Labor Day!

  2. Happy Labor Day. I’ve started it by doing laundry, which really needed to be done. I also need to clean up the kitchen, since it is a mess, and prepare some fresh green beans which I bought with a coupon on Saturday. So it will be a busy day for me. It sounds like your week will be enjoyable. Enjoy your meal that Daughter #2 is preparing. I envy you having the Mackinac Island Fudge! I’m sure you’re enjoying having several days where you won’t have to cook at all, or very little.

  3. Yay! for an easy 4-day week! After church and a family gathering involving lots of good food, I am quite content to stay at home and rest today. Not much “labor” going on here today. Just 1 load of wash accumulated over the weekend and a couple of bills to pay. This afternoon I visited my daughter Julie at her house for about and hour and a half. We seldom get that much time together to just chat about all kinds of stuff.
    Since i am still working slowly on weight loss, I will not be doing much cooking this week. Probably one meal per day at the most. 🙂 I am so happy to report that I gained no weight on my recent 4-day trip to Upper Peninsula of MI, even though we had several scrumptious meals. All of the walking to see the various sites visited burned up enough calories apparently. The Soo Locks Dinner Cruise, Castle Farms, a Shipwreck Museum were some of my favorite places to tour. Crossing the mighty Mackinac Bridge (5 miles in length) is always a thrill to enjoy. Happy Labor Day to one and all!

  4. How I would love to see your daughter’s band perform! I wish them good luck in their contests. Not much cooking for me this week since I have two late afternoon doctor’s appointments. We will have an early supper before coming home. I never made the crab cakes I had planned last week, so will have them one evening. Hubby seems to be getting his appetite back now that he is on the mend so I should plan some meals!
