Menu Plan Monday 1/16/17

Welcome to Menu Plan Monday! How does this week look for you? Here it’s busy (of course). Today is a no-school day for the kids, but I’ll still have my five Monday piano students, and four kids will come to go over their instrumental solos with me. Last Friday, I went along with a violinist I play for, to play for her at her lesson. Her teacher plays with the local Philharmonic and was from Russia. So, that was a little intimidating, but interesting too. Reminded me a little of playing for voice lessons with those quirky and eccentric music professors at IU during my college days. I am always struck by how … relaxing? it must be to be perceived as such an authority that you can pretty much sit in your chair and give out pronouncements to kids, seemingly without really worrying about the effects of anything you say. When I give piano lessons, I almost feel that they’re an aerobic activity: reaching in to help kids get their fingers right, moving quickly from one activity to another to keep Junior’s attention from straying, etc. It honestly can be a little exhausting!

La La Land

Last weekend daughter #3 and I also went to the movies (I don’t do this often, but I had tickets I had won in an online contest). We saw “La La Land,” a modern day musical. She had heard from a friend who liked it, and I knew that it had recently won several Golden Globe awards. We both liked it overall. It had definite musical themes, and while it would be hard in my mind for any current cinematic offering to compete with the “greats” like Sound of Music or Camelot, it was refreshing to see something at least mostly wholesome coming out of Hollywood. Have you seen it? What did you think?

Here are the menu plans for the week ahead:

Monday: frozen pizza — busy day!!

Tuesday: Beef and Bean Casserole — kind of like nachos, which can only be a good thing 🙂 (carried over from last week — didn’t happen then).

Wednesday: Lasagna Soup — a favorite. Like lasagna, but soup!

lasagna soup

Thursday: BBQ Quesadillas — just because I was browsing on my Pinterest recipes board and they looked good.

Friday: Mexican Tamale Pies — these are easy and good, and I make them a lot. I use Jiffy cornbread mix for the cornbread part.

  1. I thought we were having a chili dinner at church at 6 yesterday to welcome our new pastor and his family. However, I found out it is NEXT Sunday so I came home and started cooking for me. I made Pesto with noodles, Chick Fil A Slaw, green beans which I had canned from the garden with ham added, and chicken breast pieces from Schwans. Hopefully that will carry me through the week. I usually eat at church on Wednesday nights. This week the church meal includes ham loaf! I love ham loaf!

  2. Tonight will be leftover sausage-lima bean-corn casserole, Tuesday will be baked fish, eating out on Wednesday. That’s about as far ahead as I ever get! Your meals sound delicious as always. Haven’t seen La-La Land but would like to. There is no way on earth my husband would want to see it though! I’ll probably wait until it comes out on DVD. That’s how I usually see movies!!

  3. I made stuffed shells yesterday, and chicken chip casserole today (homemade chicken salad, shredded cheese and crushed potato chips baked 45 min. at 350 degrees). We’ll be having leftovers this week! Also, I’m trying a salad in a Mason jar. Might share a picture of it if it looks OK!

  4. I would love you lasagna soup, I believe, except I would leave out the spinach. I’m not a fan of cooked spinach.

  5. The lasagne soup is the one for me to try, and I even have all of the ingredients on hand right now! I also bought some corn tortillas a few days ago, so the quesadias are also sounding good to me.
I haven’t seen the movie, La la land, but I would like to go see it. You can tell me more about it when we meet on Wednesday for lunch.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I enjoy hearing from you.
