The Christmas story is so big. Huge themes play out: redemption. Sacrifice. It can be difficult to get your arms around it, particularly if you’re a child.

And yet, the Christmas story is also personal to each of us. That’s what I love about the new book, Christmas Love Letters from God.

Christmas Love Letters from God

The book, a gorgeous hard cover with a colorful dust jacket, opens up with a prophecy to Isaiah about the Messiah to come. Then we go to the story of Mary and Joseph, and baby Jesus. The story is told in simple language that would appeal to kids who are elementary age. Each page spread includes a Bible verse.

And there are also many letters — “your love letter from God” — personalizing the message of the page for a child. It’s kind of like a mini devotional, helping kids understand how the big themes of Christmas are personal for them.

I love this book and think it would make a great Christmas gift. It would also be a nice book to read to your kids as a Christmas tradition. There is enough text that you could read one page spread per day, looking up the mentioned scriptures as an added bit of enrichment. The illustrations are appealing too.

One of you can win a copy — please note that for this giveaway, winners must be residents of the continental U.S.

  1. What a sweet Christmas book for any child. I like how it can be personalized to make a child feel very important!

  2. I love anything that helps me as a parent place an emphasis on Christ’s birth at Christmas. It can be hard in our secular, material-centered culture. Thanks!

  3. I love this book. However, I’ve carefully read the entire entry twice and can find no secret word. I must be losing my eyesight in these years.

  4. Elaine — in the rafflecopter form (end of post, where you enter), when you click on the part about finding the secret word, there is a place to click. Click that — and you will see the secret word. Sorry it’s a bit of a pain!! 🙂

  5. I would love to read this very special book to my sweet children. Thank you for the chance.

  6. I have this book of children’s letters that they wrote Santa things they want for Christmas. Its precious. Its my favorite.

  7. I don’t have a favorite Christmas book. There are so many. I suppose that I would pick one from Richard Paul Evans. I was disappointed in his latest though. kristiedonelson(at)gmail(dot)com Thank you.

  8. I would love to give this to my children! My favorite Christmas book as a child was one that I received from my aunt that was personalized Christmas Story!

  9. I would get this book for my kids! We love the Crippled Lamb book too!
