Facts about Israel Dillard

The most famous baby in American currently? No doubt it’s Israel David Dillard, son of “19 Kids and Counting” stars Jill (Duggar) and Derick Dillard. Some facts about baby Israel:

  • Why is he named Israel? Jill has loved the country of Israel since visiting there with the rest of the Duggar family in 2011. Israel means “God will prevail.” David could be a nod to Jill’s brother, John David, or may be a reference to the Biblical David, a man after God’s own heart. Jill and Derick mentioned Israel as their boy name choice during the gender reveal episode of “19 Kids.” Had the baby been a girl, their chosen name was Selah, meaning “pause and reflect.”
  • Why didn’t Jill deliver at home? “19 Kids” fans know that Jill and Derick had planned a home birth, and even had a birthing pool set up in their home. However, due to complications including a 70-hour labor, Israel made his appearance after a C-section at a hospital.
  • Why did Derick get braces? Dad Derick Dillard got braces the week after baby Israel was born. Maybe his frequent TV appearances have made him want to look his very best.
  • Israel Dillard is BIG. In addition to weighing in at 9 lb. 10 oz. — big, especially for a first baby — he is long as well. His 23″ length marks him as the longest baby delivered this year so far at his hospital.

  1. I have not tried Dial Baby/Kids products, love their hand-soap.

  2. Since I have no children, I guess I don’t qualify, unless I could use them for myself. On another note, I can’t believe poor Jill endured 70 hours of labor! Having to have a C-section on her first one will probably limit the number of children she can have.
