Derick has only one sibling: It may take a bit of getting used to for Derick, who has just one brother, to feel comfortable at Duggar gatherings, with Jill’s 18 brothers and sisters. He reportedly enjoys the Duggars so far, though, saying, “You have to come in armed with good jokes and I usually have Skittles as well.”
Derick is an accountant for Walmart: Although Jill and Derick became acquainted when he was doing humanitarian work in Nepal, Derick returned to the US in January 2014. He has an accounting degree from Oklahoma State and is currently working as a tax accountant for Walmart.
Derick’s dad, Rick Dillard, passed away suddenly when Derick was a college freshman. His mom has since remarried.
Derick was Pistol Pete — Pistol Pete is Oklahoma State’s mascot. His dad had been Pistol Pete also when he went to OSU.
Derick lives just 45 minutes from the Duggars. Despite his recent overseas addresses, Derick grew up in Rogers, AK — just 45 minutes from the Duggar family. Derick and Jill’s dad, Jim Bob Duggar, were prayer partners, and through that connection Derick “met” Jill through Skype sessions.
Derick is 25. Jill just turned 23.
The couple got engaged March 29, on a walk after lunch. In true conservative Duggar fashion, chaperones (Jill’s sisters Jana and Joy Anna) followed behind. The wedding is set for June 21 — Prince William’s birthday!
The couple’s wedding site is available online. Here it is, complete with their registries — just in case you want to send the happy couple a juicer or a grain mill.
Jill and Derick’s wedding will undoubtedly be a huge part of next season’s 19 Kids and Counting. Will you be watching?
