I’m a big fan of reading Bible stories to young kids. With my own kids, I began with “Baby Bibles” and then moved on to more detailed versions of Bible stories as the kids got older. At this point, we’re reading through the actual Bible each night after dinner. Hiding God’s word in our hearts is one of the most important things we can do!
The Candle Classic Bible is a great resource for doing just that. It begins with the Old Testament and continues through the New, with 365 short stories spanning the entire Bible — one for each day of the year; pretty neat!
Each story lists a scripture reference for where to find it in the Bible. Each story is less than a page long, and each page has one or more color drawings. There is no commentary; the paraphrase of the Bible gets to speak for itself.
Obviously, some parts of the Bible lend themselves to a story-telling format better than others; there are many stories on Jesus’ life, for instance, but just one summing up all of Paul’s letters to the churches.
The hardcover, leather-look of the cover makes this a great book to read to your kids and then pass down to another generation. I think I may do just that with my copy!
