Christmas and Crayola — they just go together.

Perhaps I say that because I’ve always associated Crayola with creativity. As a teacher, my classroom was filled with Crayola products. As a mom, ditto. I’ve always enjoyed giving children gifts that encourage creativity — not just another toy that will gather dust and be forgotten soon after it’s been unwrapped. Over the years, the girls have painted their own Nativity sets. I’ve made their Christmas stockings. We’ve baked countless creative cookies, crafted numerous ornaments, and created a tree skirt with the girls’ handprints each year. Creative gifts really are the best!

This Christmas, Crayola has some amazing new products. Check out their gift guide. We’re not just living in the age of the crayon box anymore.

No, this year you can expect thrills from Crayola like the Digital Light Designer.

This high-tech LED toy lets kids draw anywhere on the 360-degree curved surface with a stylus, and voila! Their marks “magically” light up! Kind of like a 21st-century Lite-Brite (remember those?). If the kids create a design they especially like, they can even save it in the gallery to view again later. Kids can also animate their designs, and play interactive games. I’m wishing I could play with one of these!

The Light Designer is perfect for ages 6 and up, and runs on batteries.

We all know about airbrushing. But what if your kids could airbrush on their own? My first thought upon seeing the Crayola Marker Airbrush was honestly, Uh oh. Looks messy!

But upon reading reviews, that doesn’t seem to be a problem — providing that you use it with kids 6 and up (as recommended), and that you prepare an area ahead of time for the fun (I’m thinking outdoors if it’s summer, or spread out some newspaper in the basement during winter).

A great feature of the airbrush toy is that it requires no batteries. It works with the kids applying pressure to an included air tank and then pulling a trigger to spray ink from Crayola markers onto paper (you can also purchase special markers to airbrush glass). The set includes the airbrush tank, washable markers, fabric markers, and paper and stencils. This sounds like a ton of fun for kids, as long as they’re supervised and don’t start airbrushing each other (although I’m sure they’d enjoy that).

These Crayola items would keep my youngest son and two nephews entertained for hours when we get together for Christmas! Mamaw always has a craft supply drawer the grandkids raid when we visit. This would add to the fun.

We love crafts in our household! This looks like a fun product! Most recently we made some Christmas ornaments. We collected shells on our last family trip to Cape Cod, and I mixed glitter with Mod Podge for the kids to paint on the shells. Then I will hot glue a ribbon/string on top. Also we got a clear ornament to fill about 1/4 way with sand and little shells from our trip, and then I will write “Cape Cod 2012″ on it for the grandparents (who we went with).

Every year, I take a pic of the kids together, and then we set out on making a Chistmas ornament for each of the grandmas, with the pic on it. It’s fun to look back at each year, to see how they’ve grown!

Honestly, I think I would be using that airbrush as much as my kids. How cool is that thing? I haven’t tried airbrushing since I was in high school art class and I’d love to try it again.

I would love to win this for my nephew, who is very much into arts and crafts. In my house, we have a few craft-related traditions, and my favorite is our new year’s eve tradition. We get a huge piece of posterboard paper and take out all the crayons and markers, and we all draw pictures of the highlights of our year. I save them all in the closet year round, and on new year’s eve we also look back at the other years… so much fun!

These two toys would be wonderful for both my 5-year-old son and my 23 month old baby girl. They both LOVE to color and are so creative, even at their ages. We are (and I have always been) big fans of Crayola.

As for Christmas creativity…not so much creative, but we have started (or will start) a new tradition this year. Our son asked what Christmas is about. So, I explained the story of Christ. He then asked if we could please make Jesus a cake on Christmas for his birthday. And, he wants it to be a Santa cake. LOL. So, that’s our tradition.

At Christmas time we always make hand print ornaments. they are so cute I love seeing their hands grow from previous years. Crayola is the best crayon out there. They were around whenI was a little girl. Every year for Christmas Santa would get me a new box of 64. And a new coloring book, of course.

My daughter would LOVE these. She is always drawing or coloring something, and we keep a stockpile of Crayola crayons for her (no other crayons create such a wonderful color). I love that the different crafts kits allow kiddos to express themselves, and use their imagination.
