Paul Ryan’s Wife Janna Ryan and Family

I’m excited about Mitt Romney’s VP pick, Paul Ryan. Ryan was most famously the architect of the recent conservative GOP house budget. Given the candy store Obama has had open these past four years, I’m all for anyone who will try to reign in the ridiculous spending spree our government is on.

As usual, I find myself wanting to learn a little more about the candidate’s family. Here’s what I could find out about Paul Ryan’s wife Janna Ryan:

Janna Little, now age 43 and a year older than her husband, was born in Oklahoma, the oldest of three girls. Her younger sisters are named Dana and Molly. She is a graduate of Wellesley College, where she earned a degree in Spanish, and also of George Washington University Law School, and she worked as an aide to a conservative Oklahoma Democrat in Congress. She’s  the niece of David Boren, a Democrat  Senator and former Oklahoma governor.

In 1999, Janna was working in Arlington, Virginia, as a tax attorney. She met Paul Ryan at a dinner for the Congressional Sportsmen’s Caucus. In April 2000, Ryan proposed to Janna at one of his favorite fishing spots, Big St. Germain Lake in Wisconsin. Later that year, they were married in Oklahoma City. They moved to Paul Ryan’s Wisconsin hometown, Janesville.

Janna’s mother, Prudence Little, died in 2010 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Beginning the week prior to her youngest daughter’s birth, she battled melanoma, and then breast cancer and ovarian cancer as well — poor woman!

The Ryans live in Janesville, Wisconsin, in a 6-bedroom historic house with their three children: Liza, Charlie and Sam. They are members of St. John Vianney Catholic Church. The three cute kids are 7, 8, and 10 — and no doubt they’ll give the Obama girls a run for their money on the cute factor during election season.

A Janesville restaurant owner said of Mrs. Ryan, “She’s very soft spoken, elegant, and lady-like. Very family-oriented. Always with her kids, always here picking up food for her family. Just warm, easygoing, not upfront in the public arena. You can see her on the TV, she really stays back and doesn’t attract much attention to herself. Just an amazing ladylike figure.”

  1. I have nothing against Ryan except his ethnicity. I think Romney made a huge mistake in having an all Caucasian team.

  2. Elaine, with all do respect I think your statement about “all caucasian team” misses the point of having the best, brightest, articulate most qualified person able to get our country up on it’s feet economically & globally (domestic & foreign affairs). Should have absolutely nothing to do about ethnicity. You are either qualified to be the leader of the United States of America or your not.
I wasn’t committed to the Romney ticket …. until Paul Ryan showed up. Now I’m all in!

  3. Shari, you are right on! Paul Ryan
Showing up makes up my mind too. What a great pair-here we go-look out Obama.

  4. Black, White, Purple or Pink; What matters is someone who can get our world back in sync!!

  5. I enjoyed the various comments and very much appreciated Susan’s research on the Paul Ryan family! I, too, am very excited about the Mitt Romney choice for VP. Ryan certainly is a brilliant man who knows his Math! Ryan’s youth and articulate speaking ability should impress many true Americans who want to keep the values incorporated into the Declaration of Independence and Constitution going. Go Republicans, Go!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I enjoy hearing your thoughts.
