Off to See the Wizard

Forgive the brief post today. I’ve just finished playing for three performances of the fifth grade’s production of The Wizard of Oz.

Wizard of Oz Emerald CityInteresting to note that, prior to doing the play, many kids were unfamiliar with the story. I realized during rehearsals that I knew the script almost verbatim, and my brain started protesting each time the kids deviated from it. I guess when you saw a movie annually as a child (it was a big event, the night Wizard of Oz was on TV!), it becomes hard-wired in your brain. Mine, at least.

Wizard of Oz MunchkinsWhat a cute munchkin in a yellow shirt!

Wizard of Oz cast kidsSo my final fifth grade musical is history. Wow, that went fast — and it was fun.

Here’s wishing each of you safe travels through any haunted forests or cyclones you may encounter this weekend. And remember: if you want to find your heart’s desire, you don’t need to look any further than your own backyard, because if it isn’t there, you never lost it to begin with.

Have your kids (or any other special kids in your life) participated in a play? How did it go?

  1. The bird with feathers of blue
    Is waiting for you
Back in your own back yard.
You’ll see your castles in Spain
    Through your window pane
Back in your own back yard.

The old songs are still the BEST!

  2. I have never seen nor read the story of the Wizard of Oz! I’ve missed out on much of my childhood. BTW, I enjoyed the picture of the cute munchkin.
