Menu Plan Monday and Kroger Cart Buster Sale

Congrats to winner, #103 Robyn!

It’s Monday, and that means time to post a menu plan. But first, did you know that there’s a special sale going on now at Kroger?

Kroger’s Cart Buster Promotion runs nationally February 27 – March 12 (well, most places, I guess. For some reason our new week at Kroger always starts on Thursday here in NE Indiana, so it hasn’t yet begun for me).

kroger sale

In the 22 – yikes, how has it been that long? – years I’ve lived here, Meijer has usually been my go-to store. You know that I’m serious about my grocery shopping; flying to a bargain like a bee to honey. And Meijer was the first in my town to double dollar-off coupons. For years, I’d match up coupons to ads and get item after item free, each week. Unfortunately, those days are gone. No more dollar doubles, and Meijer’s prices have risen too. For the past few years, I’ve bought nearly as many things at Kroger.

And since this post is about Kroger, let’s discuss things I love about them. I know that policies vary by region, but here, Kroger triples coupons up to .50. This means that a .50 coupon is worth 1.50 to me, which is great. I can still get at least a few things free every week. They double (or triple) coupon values for 2 identical coupons. Also, Kroger frequently has great sales which are detailed each week in their weekly flier.

During this Cart Buster Sale, you can click this Kroger link to see your local ad. The link also has links to download digital coupons onto your Kroger card.

Sidenote: if you don’t already, go to Shortcuts and Cellfire. Both sites let you download digital coupons directly to your Kroger card. The best thing is combining a digital coupon with a paper coupon – lots of great deals and free stuff to be had this way :).

Even more good deals:  “Like” Kroger on Facebook.  Then, each day of the cart buster event, if you’re one of the first 1000 to click on their “deal of the day” item, you’ll get a credit for that item loaded onto your Kroger card free. They’ll be posting the deal each day sometime between noon and 6, and I saw on Facebook that Sunday’s deal posted a bit before 1 p.m. It was for a free full-size bottle of Tide, which would have been great (unfortunately for me, we hadn’t yet returned from church). I would recommend “liking” Bargains to Bounty on Facebook; I think they’ll post the item each day when it’s listed so you can try to get some freebies.

Next Monday I’ll post a photo of some of my great Kroger steals ‘n deals this week. And so that you can share in the bargain shopping, Kroger is giving one of my readers a $25 Kroger gift card! Woo hoo!! If you’d like to win, just enter a comment.

If you’d like a second entry, leave another comment telling me about a bargain you got at Kroger or a Kroger affiliate this week.

I’ll choose a winner March 12, so you have time to shop the Cart Buster Event and stock up.

And since that was so wordy, let’s cut to the chase with the week’s menu plan Monday:

Monday: Healthy Chicken Fingers with Mustard Dipping Sauce – made these last month and they were delish!

Tuesday: Tortilla Soup – a family favorite

16 oz. refried beans

14.5 oz. chicken broth

5 oz. chunk chicken (I usually just cook 1 chicken breast)

15.5 oz. black beans, rinsed

3/4 cup salsa

Combine all ingredients.  Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 10 min.

Crumble a few tortilla chips in the bottom of each bowl.

Ladle soup over chips and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.

Wednesday: No cooking – I got a mystery shop for dinner. YAY!

Thursday: Chicken and Green Chili Enchiladas – from a Super Suppers cookbook I got at Christmas; this is new to us

Friday: Lasagna (thankfully, I made 2 last time and it is in the freezer). Also French bread in the bread machine.

“The information, prize pack and giveaway have all been provided by the Kroger Family of Stores and General Mills/Nestle/Proctor & Gamble through MyBlogSpark.”

  1. I glory in your spunk with your bargaining. At this stage in my life, I honestly don’t think I am capable of doing lots of the things you described here. I know it works for you and that’s a very good thing!

  2. My bargain at Kroger this week was marked down (manager special) almond milk, plus a coupon. I got a half gallon for 95 cents. Woohoo!

  3. My grocery shopping has really decreased, but I love shopping at Kroger. Wish there was one closer to my house.

  4. I LOVE Kroger! I add coupons to my Kroger Card via the Kroger app on my SmartPhone, but I also love the personalized coupons they send me in the mail. I didn’t used to ever cut coupons becuase they were only for processed foods that I don’t buy. But now they send me coupons (and sometimes “free” coupons) for stuff I actually buy like produce, proteins, and dairy.

  5. I find it interesting that on a normal day, only a couple of us comment on your column. But when there’s a freebie, people come out of the woodwork.

On another subject entirely, there is not a Kroger store in all of Grand Rapids. People think Meijer is so great, but if they lived in a city where Meijer has a corner on the market, they might be a bit less enamored of it. Give me a super Walmart any day. Unfortunately, there are none of them within miles of me either, thanks to Meijer. So, there is no point in entering me in the contest, since I couldn’t use the gift card anyway.

  6. This is for you to toss my name in the Kroger Kettle. I do not have a Kroger in my town. We do have Jay C which is owned by Kroger, so perhaps the deals are similar.
Years ago I was told by a Columbus resident that Kroger’s prices were very high. Perhaps that has changed.

  7. love Kroger

Their fresh produce is excellent quality and we especially like the fresh fruits. Just got my first strawberries of the season!
My very favorite thing about Kroger is their 10/10 items since $1 seems very affordable for just about anything. I usually buy cottage cheese and frozen vegetables when that sale is on.
    Thanks for arranging this contest!

  16. Fry’s by me allows coupons for other stores. So recently Safeway had a coupon book. Amongst other things in the book was $1 off Johnville sausage,(use 12 coupons) they also had a weekly ad coupon for $1 off Johnville sausage up to 5 lbs.(used 3 coupons) Frys had it on sale for 3.99. And Fresh and easy had a coupon for $5 a $25 purchase. So I got 12 lbs of Sausage for $20.87 or 1.60 per lb. And yes Frys allows multiple coupons from other stores.

  57. My son’s 13th birthday was yesterday. he requested steak for dinner. I sent my husband to the store while I put the finishing touches on the cake – I froze about 5 minutes after he left, thinking about how much those steak were going to cost with my husband buying them. Oh, well, too late now. He got a great deal, though! Rib eye steaks marked down from $12.49/lb. to $5.99/lb! And these weren’t marked down because their expiration dates were coming up, they were just on sale.
