This past weekend was one of my girls’ favorites of the year. Why?
Because, through the wonders of the internet and specifically MomSelect and Zhu Zhu Pets, we were able to host a Zhu Zhu Pets party.
What are Zhu Zhu Pets? Check out their website to see it all, but basically they’re little battery-operated hamsters (nice for Mom; no cage to clean!). You can also buy an entire habitat for them, including a car (yes, they can drive), surfboard, and wheel.
When the box arrived, my girls were in hog hamster heaven:
They assembled the entire habitrail with no assistance from me, and had a ball watching the hamsters navigate their way through it. You really have to see it to appreciate how cool it is: if a hamster gets “stuck,” he will realize it and turn around. When a hamster goes over a certain area in the habitrail, it will squeak or make other noises. There are the various little glitches (most notably to me is that they have a hard time getting going on the wheel), but overall it’s a really fun toy that my girls have loved.
They each got to invite a friend, and we invited other neighborhood friends to our Zhu Zhu Pet party!
I read the kids a hamster story, we talked about our “real” pets, the kids had a great time playing with their hamsters in the habitrail, and we had Gerbil Trail Mix to eat. It was a fun, fun afternoon.
Zhu Zhu Pets are predicted to be a hot toy for Christmas this year, so be on the lookout. You can buy them at WalMart, Toys R Us or Amazon (or for outrageous prices on Ebay), or do a search on Zhu Zhu Pets giveaway (lots of blogs are giving them away now!).
Do your kids have a Zhu Zhu Pet yet? What do they liked to do with it?
