Our State Fair is a Great State Fair

Over the weekend, we traveled to the Indiana State Fair.  It was like a trip into the past, because I don’t think I’ve gone since I was a teenager. At that time, I was giving a demonstration on the stage in the 4-H building, and afterwards learned that I had won a trip to Washington, D.C.  It was a “Miss America” moment for me!

This time, the trip had no nervousness, but a lot of anticipation.  It was hot, although that was okay, because it wouldn’t really seem like a state fair without a little heat.

There was the usually collection of kitsch and oddities that make state fairs what they are:

smokey

“Only you can prevent forest fires!”

piano“PERFECT PICTURE OPPORTUNITY” is right!

bridgeDid I mention it was crowded?

friedpepsiHmmm … Deep Fried Pepsi?  Gotta love America.

bearcloths

What does he need cloths for?  Is he being potty trained?  (Sorry – you know I can’t resist this!)

turkey's

ARGHHHHH!!!

dolldressOur main reason for going was that my oldest daughter had three 4-H projects go to the Indiana State Fair.  Very neat to see her things there!!  We got lots of ideas for projects to do in future years …

tumnus… as well as ideas of what NOT to do – above, see Mr. Tumnus from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe with a case of gender confusion – or something.  Seriously, why would someone make that thing?  And where would you put it?

  1. I hope you went home with a box of State Fair taffy. It is traditional.

  2. Susan, Congratulations!!! How awesome! So when are you coming back to D.C.?! You have to call me and I can meet you there one day while you’re in town. How exciting! I think I’m more excited, lol!!

Thanks for the fair memories – just getting back in the swing of things here and it’s always good to see IN’s State Fair again 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I enjoy hearing your thoughts.
