Over the weekend, we traveled to the Indiana State Fair. It was like a trip into the past, because I don’t think I’ve gone since I was a teenager. At that time, I was giving a demonstration on the stage in the 4-H building, and afterwards learned that I had won a trip to Washington, D.C. It was a “Miss America” moment for me!
This time, the trip had no nervousness, but a lot of anticipation. It was hot, although that was okay, because it wouldn’t really seem like a state fair without a little heat.
There was the usually collection of kitsch and oddities that make state fairs what they are:
“Only you can prevent forest fires!”
“PERFECT PICTURE OPPORTUNITY” is right!
Did I mention it was crowded?
Hmmm … Deep Fried Pepsi? Gotta love America.
What does he need cloths for? Is he being potty trained? (Sorry – you know I can’t resist this!)
Our main reason for going was that my oldest daughter had three 4-H projects go to the Indiana State Fair. Very neat to see her things there!! We got lots of ideas for projects to do in future years …
… as well as ideas of what NOT to do – above, see Mr. Tumnus from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe with a case of gender confusion – or something. Seriously, why would someone make that thing? And where would you put it?
