Menu Plan Monday

mpm2I was reminded yesterday of one of the main reasons I write a menu plan Monday each week:  to save money.  We ate yesterday at a buffet, and I realized that for the cost of eating out for that one meal, I could buy groceries for the entire week.  Add the fact that eating at home is healthier, and it’s hard to justify a lot of eating out (although alas, I love the taste)

This week, I am cleaning out my e-mail box.  I get the e-mails from Kraft foods with recipes, and I have to say they almost always have recipes that are easy and look great to me.  I’m not at all a cooking snob:  I have no problem using a convenience item for part of a meal.  In fact, if a dish involves sauteing something for hours or takes an ingredient I’ve never heard of, I’m probably not making it.  So, Kraft recipes are great for me.  Our Tuesday and Wednesday recipes are from a Kraft e-mail.

Monday:  Deep-dish pizza redux (This was in the newspaper this week, and looked good).

Tuesday:  Slow Cooker Chunky Chicken Chili

Wednesday:  Mexican Chicken Casserole

Thursday:  Cheeseburger Buns I read this recipe last week online and CANNOT remember where; but it sounded yummy.  We don’t do much red meat, so I’ll probably sub soy crumbles for the ground beef.

Friday:  Homemade pizza – I make the dough; each family member puts on their own toppings.

  1. Ah yes, eating out does taste good…and not having to cook or do dishes is the best part! ha-ha! Our family doesn’t eat out together because of the triplets…they won’t eat anything on the menu. That just leaves an occassional date with The Mister…not bad…and doesn’t cost as much as the whole fam!

  2. Do you get the Kraft magazine they send out with recipes? I got one over the weekend and some of them sounded great! While I do like to go out, I’m with you, the food at home is usually better.

  3. Every single time we eat out all I can think about is how many groceries I could’ve gotten with that money (and it is WAY more than one silly meal!)! That thought alone keeps us from eating out!

    The chicken chili looks good. I’ll have to try it!

  4. I have to admit that I am sometimes I recipe snob! I really like cooking with new ingredients and new techniques – when I have time!! However, I mostly cook recipes like Kraft recipes, too. Simple, comforting food is good for the family. The recipes you have posted for the week sound great! Can’t wait to try some of them!

  5. I love to go out to eat but it does get costly. The menu you’ve chosen for the week looks super! We’ll be right over for a taste …. ha ha :o) ♥ ∞

  6. I still receive Kraft email recipes but these days it’s their light and healthy.
    Most of the time, I’ll take their recipe and re-make it. I appreciate the inspiration.

    Tuesday is my day off and I enjoy setting some time aside to visit MPM bloggers.

  7. I’ve found that the last few times we’ve hit a restaurant, I left feeling I’ve been jipped financially. I’m a cook like you. Easy and quick with the basics works for me!!
